Eight New Year’s Resolutions for Whole-body Wellness After 60

January 9, 2024

We are just over a week into 2024. Still not sure what you want to resolve to do? Cordia offers the following suggestions that go beyond the usual exercise-more-and-eat-healthier resolutions (not that those are ever bad) and allow you to focus on whole-body wellness.

Stay Socially Connected:

  • Isolation can have a dramatically negative effect on us, especially as we age. Resolve to connect with friends and family regularly, either in person or through virtual means.
  • Join a program or group, such as our book club or theater group, to foster new friendships.

Embrace Technology:

  • Learn to use technology – or use it better – to stay connected with loved ones, whether it’s through video calls, social media, or email.
  • Explore apps and tools designed to challenge your brain and enhance cognitive abilities. Online games such as Wordle or Sudoku are just perfect for this.

Mindfulness and Relaxation:

  • Practice mindfulness and relaxation techniques, such as meditation or deep breathing exercises, to manage stress and promote mental well-being. Psst. If you have not been to our weekly Mindfulness and Meditation class, now’s the time to try it.

Engage in Hobbies:

  • Rekindle old hobbies or explore new ones that bring joy and fulfillment. If there is something you would like to try that we do not offer, let Catherine or Linda know!

Volunteer and Give Back:

  • Dedicate time to volunteer for local causes or organizations. COVID shut a lot of these opportunities down, but they are available once again and so good for you!
  • Share knowledge and experience by mentoring or participating in community service projects. You have wonderful knowledge to pass along to others.

Never Stop Learning:

  • Enroll in classes, visit local museums, or attend lectures or workshops – either at Cordia or at our many wonderful local resources – to continue learning and stimulating the mind.
  • Challenge the mind by learning a new skill, whether it is a language, a musical instrument, or a craft.

Prioritize Sleep:

  • Maintain regular sleep patterns for better overall health.

Cultivate a Positive Mindset:

  • Focus on positivity and gratitude.
  • Practice positive affirmations and surround oneself with uplifting people and activities.

Each of these just happens to (coincidentally) align with Cordia’s Five Pillars of Well Being and most are already available to Cordia Members as part of our weekly programming. Pick one or a few for a better 2024 – either way, you cannot lose.
