Staying connected in a distant world

May 5, 2020

No matter what your age or where you live, isolation can be a powerfully negative force. One of the greatest tasks we are charged with during the current situation is ensuring that our members continue to feel connected intellectually, emotionally, and physically within our community.

Just how do we do this when we are meant to distance ourselves from one another?

With a little Cordia ingenuity, that’s how. Through the wonders of technology, not to mention the skills and creativity of our wonderful team, we have managed to take Cordia’s traditional programming and give it a social distance twist. Take a peek at what’s being offered this week to our members. As you’ll see, almost all of our programming has been moved to our Theatre which, under normal circumstances can seat up to 60, but is now set up for a max of five or six attendees — with the option to watch our programming on our in-house TV channel.

Another example?

Meals have always been a time of laughter and engagement with one another at Cordia. While our dining rooms and pub remain closed, we are encouraging our members, if they wish, to “dine” with one another utilizing a handful of ancillary dining areas we’ve creatively set up. In each area, a small collection of chairs with coordinating TV trays are arranged appropriately apart from one another, allowing members to enjoy their to-go meals with their friends, making those all-too-important social connections — but from a safe distance.

Unique times call for unique solutions. If there is one thing we know for sure, it is that community is everything. We are ever so grateful for ours.
