Three weeks in Brazil

September 25, 2025

Cordia employee and Member laughing.

Every summer, our community packs its virtual bags and sets out on a three-week adventure to a new country. This year, our passports were stamped for Brazil, a land of dazzling landscapes, vibrant rhythms, and rich traditions. From the Amazon rainforest to Rio’s Carnival streets, our Members explored Brazil’s heart and soul through food, art, history, and music all from the comfort of Cordia

Exploring Brazil’s Wonders

We kicked off our virtual journey by discovering Brazil’s modern capital, Brasilia, the only capital city built in the 20th century. Through films, lectures, a

nd discussions, we learned how thisarchitectural marvel was designed to embody a utopian vision of urban living. Members also explored the Pantanal, the world’s largest wetland, marveling at its extraordinary wildlife — from giant otters to the brilliant hyacinth macaw. Later, we journeyed virtually to Iguazu Falls, five times the size of Niagara and one of the most breathtaking natural wonders on earth.

We didn’t stop there. Our trip also took us to the historic town of Paraty, a gem of Brazil’s Gold Rush era, and into the mighty Amazon, where life itself is shaped by the water.

Tasting and Savoring Brazil

Food is always one of the best ways to experience a culture, and Brazil did not disappoint! Cordia Members sampled savory pastéis — crispy, golden pastries filled with traditional flavors. We enjoyed an authentic Brazilian dinner featuring homestyle dishes, and capped things off with a lively Brazilian street food night.

The highlight? A special visit from Mari Balsan, a representative from Brazil’s Garibaldi Winery Cooperative. She introduced us to wines crafted by more than 400 families carrying ongenerations of tradition. Sipping and savoring together, we learned why Brazil’s wines are gaining international acclaim.

Culture, Art, and Music

Our time in Brazil was also rich with culture. Through the Cordia Film Club, we viewed Central Station, a moving Brazilian classic. We explored the art and architecture of Brasilia through the eyes of young filmmakers and dove into the works of Brazilian composers from the 18th to 20th centuries.

Of course, no trip to Brazil would be complete without music and dance! Professional dancer Ramon Gaitan brought the sparkle of Carnival to our community, Cordia Members enjoying a meal on the patio during our Brazil night.performing lively samba and salsa, and even teaching us a few moves. Members embraced the rhythm and flair with energy and laughter. Our Members also enjoyed a performance by the Deep Blue Water Samba Drummers.

Conversations and Connections

Our Members also engaged in thoughtful discussions on Brazil’s history, agriculture, and international relations, exploring everything from traditional farming practices to current political and economic issues. Along the way, we shared stories, reflections, and personal connections to South America.

Até Mais, Brazil!

We wrapped up our adventure with a festive farewell, raising a glass together on the patio at our Até Mais to Brazil celebration. Some Members even shared their real-life memories of traveling to Brazil and South America, enriching our collective journey.

From the Amazon to Iguazu Falls, samba to street food, our summer in Brazil was a vibrant reminder that exploration never ends. Our community may be right here at home, but our curiosity and spirit of adventure take us around the world.

Where will we go next summer? Stay tuned — our passports are ready!
